You're certainly not the only one who's spoken enthusiastically about DW, and I'm not ignoring that. But the risk is a little lower because the price is lower.Īnd of course the games we're talking about here just need to tide us over until Limit Theory ships.įlatfingers wrote:I do appreciate the recommendation, Scytale, and I haven't said no forever.

TBH, I'm not convinced yet about Stardrive 2, either. "It's the best!" and "just look at all these features!" didn't give me the informed analysis I needed to be satisfied that forking over that much cash would probably pay off in 4X satisfaction. What I didn't see - and I'm not asking for it here - was a calm, articulate, careful and historically-informed explanation of why someone who mostly enjoyed playing MoO2 would be likely to find DW at least as much fun. All I saw were glowing reports that it's the best space 4X game of all time (which I found annoying as a fan of MoO and MoO2), and eye-glazing feature lists (as though that was somehow sufficiently convincing). If anything, it's that very enthusiasm that, I suppose, struck a slightly wrong note with me when I investigated it (more than once). I do appreciate the recommendation, Scytale, and I haven't said no forever. I want to know if it'll scratch a space itch that either Galactic Civilizations 3 or Distant Worlds won't. I was going to be angry about that, but then I realised that he could be just avoiding the mistake he made with promising multiplayer in SD1. There are no plans for multiplayer at release.Įdit: or at all, unless a user can pull it off down the road, he's not saying he wont add it afterwards. I'm curious about its multiplayer functionality.īut if I'm going to buy it, I'll definitely wait till some time after release - I felt burned by SD1 by an unfulfilled promise of multiplayer (I have a friend I play with), and I want to be sure it won't happen again. SD2 looks amazing, and I'll be following it. I'm still not really a fan of how he handled the multiplayer thing, and I don't fully appreciate his attitude towards Stardrive 1, but. Hmm it's good hearing from him personally. Zanteogo wrote: SGJ Podcast #90 - A Starry Drive (2) with Daniel DiCicco So my point is: if someone pirates a game it's worth something to them, even if it's just 20 cents, right? Someone who pirates a game could instead conceivably wait some time for the game to go on a sufficiently large sale and buy it. Now, I have a lot more respect for people who admit that they pirate because they can, and it costs them nothing (as I've heard one member on this forum say), because they don't try to hide under some kind of moral righteousness. I pirate from EA because their games are worthless The upshot of both these subpoints is that I contend that this argument: A pirate could choose instead to wait for a newly released game to go on sale, and buy it when it's much cheaper! So they're in a position where if piracy did not exist, they would be proper customers and contribute to sales. The reason these games are cheap is largely because it's been some time since release and they probably provoke more sales (and potentially more profit) but triggering big sale spikes by putting on a ludicrous sale. Cheap games on Steam - I'm sorry if I came across as harsh here, I had misunderstood you! But there's an interesting point here that arises from the obvious: it's not piracy if you buy the game, no matter how cheap. Interestingly, this ties into my next point:Ģ. I don't mean to say that you should buy a game even if you don't like it or want to play it "because of poor employees" my point was that if it's worth nothing to you, leave it alone, but that if you pirate, then it's clearly worth something, and if you're willing use that something, then the employees should see at least some return on their work. I just sayed that i sometimes feel like i pirate games when i buy good games on steam for 99 cents (i know that this is not pirating ).

Im not pirating, all i wanted to say was when they make shitty games that look awesome (but after some research) they are all self repeating crap why should i buy any of these? Swinging the "but the poor employes" club is just so cheap. If you don't want it, why are you pirating it? HappyGhecko wrote:o.O if they make something i don´t want despite telling them what i want, why should i bother buying there stuff to pay the employes?
